Parenthood Is A Sacred and Holy Responsibility To Help Our Children Find Their Way

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

2 Nephi 2: 21

“For he showed unto all men that they were lost.”

Having a family is a sacred responsibility and we can’t take lightly bringing children into this world. God holds us responsible and accountable for how we raise and lead our children. Therefore, we must learn directly from God by revelation how to be disciples and parents.

We are living in a world separated from God; and therefore, in a sense we are lost. However, we are not lost. We have His words that help us find His way.

The family must be gospel centered!

Elder Maxwell quoting President Brigham Young said, “When asked in conversation, Why are men left alone and often sad? Why is not God always at man’s side promoting universal happiness at least for His Saints? President Brigham Young responded concerning how man’s divine destiny requires individual experience and practice in learning to “act as an independent being”- to see what we will do, whether we will be “for God or not”- and in developing our own resources. Such experiences will teach us to be “righteous in the dark- to be a friend of God” (Brigham Young Office Journal, 28 January 1857)
