Satan Wants To Destroy The Righteous

Jesus Christ Topical Guide: Sermon On The Mount Series

Matthew 5:10

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Elder Holland said that you can’t really love truth unless you are confronting falsehood.

If you are being persecuted for righteousness sake, take that as a good sign. It is evidence that you are standing as a witness for Christ, and that you are making a difference for Him. It means you are shaking up the kingdom of the Devil and he is fighting back. It means that you are not an idle bystander.

The veil has not been taken off Satan’s eyes. He knows who were the great and noble in the preexistence; therefore, the Devil wants them the most. I think Satan is worried because God saved the best for the last days and he is afraid because the spiritual giants are making their appearance on earth.

I think Satan wants everyone as miserable as he is; however, he knows the power of keeping covenants. Therefore, the greatest opposition is targeted against God’s covenant children.

For example, it is easy to see why Joseph Smith’s life was so difficult. The scriptures say that the only person who did more for the salvation of this world than Joseph Smith was Jesus Christ. Therefore, Satan could not let Joseph Smith succeed and certainly couldn’t under any circumstances let the Book of Mormon be translated and published. However, the Devil failed with Joseph Smith and Jesus Christ and ultimately he will be utterly destroyed and cast down for eternity by the power of Jesus Christ.
