Help Our Children Act By Converting Them

“To Act For Themselves” We Should Convert Our Children

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

2 Nephi 2: 26

“And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not be acted upon,…”

How can we help our children to act for themselves and not be acted upon?

How can we raise children to not be passive?

We can help them act by converting our children to Christ. The Holy Ghost converts, not us; however, we provide the environment and leadership so they feel the Holy Ghost. They will not waste their life in light-mindedness such as spending hours playing video games. Unfortunately, we can’t ponder and pray for our children. How nice that would be if we could build their faith for them. However, we can create an environment that will encourage our children to deepen their faith. That will change their hearts, and we will not have to push them.

I have always found it interesting how during Christ’s life, his Apostles were not converted while they lived and served side by side with Him.. It wasn’t until after Christ was crucified and the Apostles received the Holy Ghost. That is when they were converted.

The importance of the Holy Ghost in the family cannot be emphasized enough. It is not possible to have the Holy Ghost too much in the home.
