A Haven Away From The Wicked World

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 16:1

“Thou hast declared unto us hard things, more than we are able to bear.”

Thou Hast Declared Unto Us Hard Things

If you want to make your home a haven away from the wicked world, you will have to do things that others are not. Elder Larry Y. Wilson’s insights on Lehi’s dream is very meaningful. Some firmly gripped the iron rod, while others casually walked following the crowd.

Elder Wilson said, “This works fine in sunny weather. But the storms of deception and the mists of falsehood arise without warning. In these situations, being familiar with the voice of the Holy Ghost is a matter of spiritual life and death.”

Parents have to be the leaders in the home. Our sources of influence matters a great deal. For example, we listen to the most prominent people in our lives. Additionally, our children’s friends are very meaningful to them and in some cases more influential than their parents. It shouldn’t be that way. The parents should be more persuasive and will be if we take upon ourselves the leadership role.

In general, we must be very careful about whom we listen to because our sources of influence could teach us lies and we might believe them.
