We Underestimate The Consequences Of Sin And How It Harms Us

Jesus Christ Topical Guide: Sermon On The Mount Series

Matthew 5: 29-30

“And if thy right hand offend thee pluck it out, and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”

“And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”

God has the least degree of allowance for sin. Elder D. Todd Christofferson said we underestimate the consequences of sin. For example, sin distances us from God, and we would never sin if we comprehended what life could be like if we were always close to Him.

Fortunately, He is patient with us and knows we grow precept upon precept, a little at a time.

We will profit by giving up anything that is preventing us from being close to God. Much of the things we may enjoy may not be a sin; however, it doesn’t increase faith and Godly power.

Spiritual death is the most tragic, and it is also the most common. Maybe the reason it is the most common is because worldly things are more important than faith. My observation is that people are naturally driven to entertainment, especially when we are bored.
