God Wants Sincere Prayer

Jesus Christ Topical Guide: Sermon On The Mount Series

Matthew 6: 5-6

“And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.”

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

The Lord condemns hypocrisy. Prayer is very sacred and personal between you and God. This doesn’t mean that we should never pray in public. The problem in when we pray to be acknowledged by men.

Man might offer you a million dollars, but only God can give you the gifts of the Spirit, such as healing the sick and the divine character traits such as faith, hope, and charity which can only be received as a gift.

For example, some parents have children tormented with addictions and would give all the money they have to see their children free from it.

God has the power to heal all things. To pass up God’s healing and His help for the honors of men is insanity.
