The Book of Mormon Can Heal

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

2 Nephi 1:6

“Wherefore, I, Lehi prophesy according to the workings of the Spirit which is in me,…”

The Spirit

“Pondering a passage of scripture can be a key to unlock revelation and the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Scriptures can calm an agitated soul, give peace, hope, and a restoration of confidence in one’s ability to overcome the challenges of life. They have potent power to heal emotional challenges when there is faith in the Savior. They can accelerate physical healing.” Elder Richard G. Scott

These blessings are priceless. We live in the last days where the scriptures tell us men’s heart shall fail them. The rate of mental illness is high and many people are on psychotropic drugs such as anxiety and depression medicine.

The scriptures have the power to heal mental illness. Elder Scott said scriptures have potent power to heal emotional challenges. Elder Holland also taught that we should utilize all the available resources, including professional therapists.

“We live in days in which the mists of darkness are “exceedingly great.” Satan is “the father of lies,” and his lies “blindeth the eyes, and hardeneth the hearts of the children of men.” One of Satan’s subtle but more pervasive strategies is to distract us from the things that matter most with a never-ending array of mind-numbing trivialities’.” Douglas D. Holmes The mists of darkness can be these mind numbing trivialities that lead us away from God. The cognitive behavioral approach to mental illness says that our irrational thoughts and the all or none thinking is the cause of mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression. “Mind-numbing trivialities” have zero power to bring someone out of a mental black hole. Additionally, there is no spirit in “mind-numbing trivialities.”

For example, social media is an exceedingly great mist of darkness that is addictive to many people, especially teenagers. You know there is a problem when teenagers are sitting next to each other texting the other instead of talking.
