Jesus Christ Can Change Our Natures So We Never Treat Others With Harshness

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 18: 11

“and did treat me with much harshness.”

I think the way to overcome harshness, anger, mistreatment, and abuse is by changing our natures. Focusing on behavior changes is nice and good but it is not enough. We need to be our best in our darkest moments; and this will not happen if we focus mainly on changing behavior but ignore the root of the problem.

The root of the problem is our character. The reason why Jesus Christ is also called the Father is because we have to be spiritually born again and this can only happen by Him through the Holy Ghost. The Lord can make us into new creatures by the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is also a God that changes our natures. This is how mean people become nice and hard people soft. This is how selfish people become unselfish and who sacrifice for others.

The Lord can change us to the point that treating others with harshness or becoming angry is not part of our character. Or, instead of the smallest thing setting you off, it would take something major. Our goal needs to be that nothing can make us angry. This is the standard the Lord taught in the Sermon on the Mount, which is there is no just cause for anger.

I think the only way to become new creatures is to immerse yourself in the spirit.
