Humility Is Relying On God

Gospel Basics Series: Christlike Attributes

Humility is the cure for pride. All sins are a subset of pride. Humility is to do what the Lord wants you to do instead of what you want to do. Humility is glorifying God for all the good that happens in your life and for all your successes.

Two Other Elements of Humility

  1. Gratitude
  2. Relying on God’s strength

The world would have you believe that humility is weakness, but the truth is humility is a strength. A byproduct of relying on God’s strength is increased confidence. You grow to realize that you can do anything with the Lord’s help.

Pride is the opposite of humility. The Book of Mormon shows how pride caused the complete destruction of a group of people. The prideful person puts greater trust in self than in God or His servants. To be prideful is to put the things of the world above the things of God. It is to honor yourself over honoring God.

Pride is competitive. You think you are better than someone else. The result of pride is feelings of anger and hatred.
