The Goodness of Jesus Christ

The goodness of Christ is manifest in His overwhelming love, and His compassion on us in our suffering. When you return to His presence at least for judgment, you will be amazed at His love. His love changes the world.

To know God is to know yourself. Elder Wirthlin taught that we should move beyond knowing about God to truly knowing Him. Elder Holland also said we should have more direct experiences with God and thought that we seek God too obliquely.

That kind of knowledge arms you with the power to endure anything. It gives you the vision to know what really matters in this life. In addition, much of what we think is important is not.

Coming to a “knowledge of the goodness of God” requires that we know the character and attributes of God, which is a critical element of faith. For example, when you know who God is and His attributes you will trust Him completely. As a result, you will be tried and tested and purified by fire and this stretching experience will require trust that God has not forgotten nor forsaken you.

Jesus Christ’s goodness was manifest through His atonement. Elder Maxwell said, if it were not for the character of Christ, the atonement would not have happened. Elder Bednar explained that the character of Christ was always pointed outward. He always had other people on His mind. He always wanted to help and serve, even when He was in tremendous pain. The Lord’s atonement is the single greatest manifestation of love this world has seen.

Ultimately, the gospel of Jesus Christ is the world’s only hope for salvation, peace and safety.
