Father's Must Be The Prophets In Their Home

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 9:1

"And all these things did my father see, and hear, and speak, as he dwelt in a tent….and also a great many more things, which cannot be written upon these plates."

Fathers have a critical leadership role. Their job is to see, hear, and speak for God to their families. Consequently, fathers are the prophets for their families. This requires they live according to the spirit so they can receive revelation.

Drawing down the powers of heaven into the home is critical for the father, which means he must make it a haven away from the wicked world. He must live so he can draw down the powers of heaven for his family. The father has a couple of duties specific to him such as being the physical provider but without reservation his most important role is spiritual. That will protect his family more than anything he could do in the office.

This is why living after the manner of the spirit is vital, and it is not easy to always have the spirit with you. Why? Life is hard! For instance, we live in a fallen world and the natural man tendencies easily corrupts us if we are not watchful.

How can we always have the spirit with us?

This word always is interesting and technically always remembering Christ is impossible because we can't think about two things at the same time. However, thinking about Christ always is the key to always have the spirit with you. Indeed, there is great power in His name. Consequently, constantly having the spirit with you requires great effort.

I don't believe we can multi-task and expect the Holy Ghost to be with us. For example, I strongly believe the TV is Satan's secret weapon to put asleep the great and noble.
