Be Calm In A Fight

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 15: 20- “that they were pacified and did humble themselves before the Lord.”

They Were Pacified

As I pondered how this relates to marriage and family, I thought about it in terms of receiving peace. President Nelson said, “In these latter days, we know there will be earthquakes in diverse places. Perhaps one of those diverse places will be in our own homes, where emotional, financial, or spiritual “earthquakes” may occur. Priesthood power can calm the seas and heal fractures in the earth. Priesthood power can also calm the minds and heal fractures in the hearts of those we love.” April 2016 General Conference

The Lord’s peace passeth all understanding. For example, you could be facing extreme challenges and still be at peace about it. His peace can make you calm when others break.

Be A Peacemaker In Relationships

How can you restore peace in a fight or argument?

No matter how you look at it, it ALWAYS takes two to fight, period. Nobody can offend you or make you mad. Therefore, you can choose to be the one who will not continue the fight. That is a lot easier said than done because emotions are running hot and you lose your head when you are mad.

How easily do you get mad? That is a sign of your character. Do you easily get mad and is it over something superficial and something that will not matter in 30 years.

I am not suggesting you turn the other cheek if your spouse is abusing you. There is no excuse for abuse and there must be no tolerance for it. You must protect yourself against abuse.
