The Priesthood Is Like Unto The Body

All The Priesthood Offices Are Important

The Presidents Of The Church Series: Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith compared the body of the priesthood to your body. All parts of your body have an important function, and when something is missing you are at a disadvantage. Worthy boys at the age of 12 receive the lesser priesthood, but that does not mean they are less important. In truth, a 12-year-old boy with the Aaronic priesthood has more power in the eyes of God than the President of the United States (or any other country for that matter) with no priesthood.

The priesthood has several different offices with their respective responsibilities. The Aaronic priesthood prepares you to receive the higher priesthood. Generally boys who grow up in the church are ordained to the Aaronic priesthood at age 12. The Lord helps them grow by degrees, by starting out with small assignments and responsibilities as they grow in strength and confidence.

In Joseph Smith’s day an in our day some men in the church covet higher offices and look down on lower callings. This should not be. God is no respecter of persons. He only asks you to magnify whatever calling you have, and you will receive the same blessings from God.
