Righteous Leadership In The Home Is Charity

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 8:15- “And it came to pass that I beckoned unto them.”
I think Lehi’s beckoning is a great example of righteous dominion. For example, he didn’t force, order, command or tell his family to join him at the tree of life.
Instead, he beckoned!
Lehi showed righteous leadership, which is the opposite of force and coercion. As a result, his family followed (maybe with the exception of Laman and Lemuel). People naturally follow righteous leaders, and righteous families are no exception.
Similarly, righteous fathers who lead “by persuasion, by long suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned,” have great influence and power with their wives and children. (D&C 121: 41)
What does persuasion mean?
One definition is religious belief. I believe persuasion implies teaching, which I think is about the most important thing you can do for your children.
That is especially true if you can get the Book of Mormon to raise them!!
As a result, a righteous father with priesthood power will naturally attract his family because of his righteous example and character.

Excellent Leadership Is Through The Principles of Righteousness Such as Charity

Real spiritual and Godly power (not fake or pretended) is profoundly attractive, and can only be operated and controlled upon the principles of righteousness. These heavenly powers are denied and blocked to any priesthood man who gratifies his pride or vain ambition.
In addition, the Apostles teach that women can also have priesthood power even though they are not ordained to the authority of the priesthood. For example, the power of Godliness is available to all who participate in the ordinances (in the temple), and this includes the women.
Therefore, the temple arms women with great power.
One of the great lessons of the temple is that God is no respecter of persons. Therefore, the power of godliness is available to all who perform the ordinances.

The Tree Of Life And Agency

You can learn many life-changing lessons from Lehi’s dream because it is rich with symbolism. Agency is one of them! For example, Lehi was already at the tree and desperately wanted his family to join him just like any loving father and parent would.

All normal parents want the best for their children, but they can’t force righteousness on them.

God will not force us to heaven!

Eventually your children will leave your protecting care and do what they want.

I feel agency is one of the most important doctrines. Why?

Because I feel agency is the key to returning to God and inheriting all that He has. Additionally, agency is how your children will fulfill their divine destiny in this life.

What is agency?

Agency or more accurately moral agency is the duty and responsibility for individual action and is the key to Godhood. I am convinced of that.

Truly, you can’t become a God without this wonderful gift. And, this requires freedom, which is why God raised up America’s Founding Fathers to create the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Doing whatever I wanted is how I previously thought about agency. Then I listened to a devotional by Elder Dallin H. Oaks who was the president of Brigham Young University. After listening to him I realized I had a very shallow and superficial understanding of agency.

Instead, I learned that agency is a duty and responsibility to seek after Jesus Christ and resist Satan and evil. Additionally, when you make commitments and covenants with God He expects you to keep them. You are no longer on neutral ground or have the right to do whatever you want. Sin and disobedience is no longer acceptable.

If you can teach this doctrine to your children in a way that burns in their heart, they will have a glorious life and they will certainly fulfill their divine destiny.

Why? Because they will not waste their life! Indeed, squandering our life will cause great heartache in the next life. Therefore, a strong belief in agency will motivate your children to make every minute count. This critical doctrine will bless them with a strong accountability to God for every aspect of their life.
