Your Children Cannot Fall If They Build On The Rock of Christ

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 12: 22- “these shall dwindle in unbelief.”

Who are these….

We don’t want our families to dwindle in unbelief! The dangers of spiritual death are serious. For example, if you are spiritually dead then you will be completely vulnerable to Satan. Therefore, he has full power to thrash and tear you apart.

The greatest nightmare for any parent is to see Satan destroying one of their children. Fortunately, there is an answer!

Build On The Rock of Christ

“And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of your Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.” Helaman 5:12

That is the power of Christ! He has the power over Satan and hell.

Jesus Christ is the foundation that if your children build they cannot fall. I think the last phrase of this verse is significant, “they cannot fall.” It doesn’t say they might not fall or likely will not fall but cannot fall.

Jesus Christ is God! He is all-powerful!

It is much better and far less work to strengthen your children up front than to rescue them after they fall into Satan’s grasp. Strengthening your children in Christ in advance requires more work on the front end but it will save you a lot of work later on. For example, if your children fall into a drug or pornography addiction, you will expend tremendous personal and family resources trying to rescue them. Addictions are the chains and fetters of hell.
