The Law of The Fast (Fasting) Draws You Closer To God And Is A Way To Give To Charity

Gospel Basics Series: The Commandments

Wonderful blessings are reserved for you if you fast. Fasting means going without food and water for a period of two meals. To be a fast, you must start and end it with a special prayer dedicating that time period as a fast. Fasting will help your prayers become more heartfelt and meaningful. Fasting will help you draw closer to God.

Praying for specifics is better than praying for general things. You should fast for specific needs, wants, or desires. Fasting should be private, and not be advertised to the world that you are fasting.

Fasting also involves giving to the poor. Members are asked to donate the money you would have spent for the two meals to the fast offerings church donations. The church uses that money to help members who are struggling financially and can’t provide for themselves.
