The Savior's Earthly Ministry And Atonement

Gospel Basics Series: The Gospel Of Jesus Christ

When Christ was born the people were in apostasy. Part of His mission was to establish the church again. The other vital mission Heavenly Father sent Jesus Christ to do was perform the atonement and die for us. He took upon Him through excruciating pain and suffering the sins of all of Heavenly Fathers children.

Jesus Christ taught the gospel and performed many mighty miracles, such as healing the sick and people who could not see or hear. He healed people afflicted with leprosy. He raised people from the dead. He forgave sins and gave them spiritual life, which is the greatest of all miracles.

He called twelve men to be His Apostles and gave them the priesthood. He did that by the laying on of hands. He organized His church, fulfilled prophecy from the Old Testament prophets.

His life was not easy. He was rejected everywhere He went. Eventually Jesus Christ was crucified. The most important mission Heavenly Father sent Jesus Christ to earth to do was carry out the atonement. Before He died, He gave the keys of the kingdom to His Apostles and authorized them to teach the gospel and perform the ordinances of salvation and build His Church in the world.
