Equanimity And Hope Are Possible Through Covenants

The Power Of Covenants

Elder D. Todd Christofferson

"Thirdly, come what may, we can face life with hope and equanimity, knowing that we will succeed in the end because we have God's promise to us individually, by name, and we know He cannot lie."

Come What May

There is great power in knowing that whatever happens in the world or in your personal life, you will be ok. Anxiety and stress to a large degree causes uncertainty and uneasiness. Making covenants with God binds Him to you, and you to Him. This is a huge doubt and fear buster.

Face Life With Equanimity

The definition of equanimity according to Dictionary.com is a mental or emotional stability or composure especially under tension or strain; calmness , equilibrium. The antonyms of equanimity are panic, despair, disquiet and agitation.

Making covenants with God gives you the power to live a serene and peaceful life even if there is chaos all around you in the world. There is a promise from the Lord that you can have His peace even when there is no peace in the world.

There may come a time when you need to keep your cool when everyone else has become angry, and you are the only one with a level head. You will be the peacemaker the person who everyone looks up to for an example.

We are living in the last days and the Lord has said he will pour out His wrath in great measure. There will be unspeakable calamities in the world. Current Apostles have said that this is not a time of peace, and the current conditions are not better than the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

They have said that wickedness will only increase and once the door to immorality opens, it doesn't close at least not by government or society.

Only individuals and family will be able to close the door to immoral decadence. This is another reason why families must be held up as the supreme unit of society.

When families fail, societies and nations are destroyed. Families are the front lines in Satan's war to destroy civilization. Even with all this warning, the apostles are still optimistic. The final days are called the great and terrible day of the Lord. It will be terrible for the wicked and great for the righteous.

Face Life With Hope

You should feel empowered and strengthened by this truth. The more hope and trust and confidence you have in God the more He can use you to do powerful and amazing things for Him. He will be able to put you in extremely difficult and challenging circumstances and know you can handle it and make important things happen. With the Lord on your side you know you can be engaged in difficult and dangerous missions and not fail even when things go bad.

God's Promise Is To Us Individually By Name

There is something powerful when a stranger addresses you by name. Dale Carnegie's book How To Win Friends And Influence People in my mind is one of the greatest self help books out there. He talks about how powerful using names are. You can lift someone's spirit just by calling them by name.

Heavenly Father knows us intimately. He literally conceived us and nurtured us in spirit form. Even though He has created worlds without number and innumerable number of children, He can still give you individual attention as if you were His only creation.

He does not deal with us in the masses. Prayer is a way to access Him on an individual basis. Making covenants with God creates a greater dimension to the personal access to His power.

God Cannot Lie

This is a basic principle of faith. Faith is based on something or someone and the faith unto salvation is based on Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is not the same person as Heavenly Father but they are exactly the same in every perfect attribute.

When Christ gives a promise, know for sure that He can make it happen conditional on your faith. The scriptures are full of His promises. He is also no respecter of persons, what He has said to the one in the scriptures He has said to all. We are told to liken the scriptures to ourselves.

Knowing that God cannot lie gives you the confidence to completely trust in Him. So this means if He has promised you something and it hasn't happened yet, it is one of two things. He is teaching you patience or you have some more work (faith) to do to make it happen.

You Will Succeed In The End

Would you take on a challenge if you knew you would succeed in the end, of course you would. This is exactly the promise the Lord has made to those who follow him. He never said it would be easy, only worth it and possible with His help. It is impossible to succeed without Christ, at least salvation is impossible without the Lord. There is nothing greater than exaltation to inherit the same kingdom where Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are and to have their same powers, privileges and attributes.
