Gordon B. Hinckley Talks

The Things of Which I Know: "I wish to give you my testimony of the basic truths of this work." Listen.

We Bear Testimony to the World: "The Lord is richly blessing His Church, and our duty is to do all we can to move it forward."

The Need For Greater Kindness:

The Great Things Which God Has Revealed

Gambling

A Tragic Evil Among Us: [Pornography] is like a raging storm, destroying individuals and families, utterly ruining what was once wholesome and beautiful.

The Women In Our Lives: How thankful I am, how thankful we all must be, for the women in our lives.

I Was An Hungred, And Ye Gave Me Meat: Wherever want has been created by whatever cause, representatives of the Church have been there. … I have been a firsthand witness to the effectiveness of our humanitarian efforts.

The Shepherds of Israel: I thank the Lord for good bishops in this Church. . . . May you know that peace which comes alone from God to those who serve Him.

An Ensign to the Nations, a Light to the World: If we are to [be] an ensign to the nations and a light to the world, we must take on more of the luster of the life of Christ.

Let Us Live the Gospel More Fully: What a tremendous work you are doing, you faithful Latter-day Saints all across the world, who carry in your hearts a firm and unswerving testimony.

To the Women of the Church: Thank you for being the kind of people you are and doing the things you do. May the blessings of heaven rest upon you. (Women's Conference)

Loyalty: Be loyal to the best that is in you. Be faithful and true to the covenants that are associated with the priesthood of God.

Here are two talks President Gordon B. Hinckley gave about war, concerning the war on terrorism shortly after the 911 terrorist attacks and the Iraq war. In my mind President Hinckley makes it clear that the war on Terrorism in general and the war in Iraq are justified wars. The Book of Mormon also makes it clear there are justified and unjustified wars. Wars to defend freedom (even if it is for someone else) are justified but wars for power are not justified.

War and Peace: "I hope that the Lord’s people may be at peace one with another during times of trouble, regardless of what loyalties they may have to different governments or parties."

The Times in Which We Live: "Our safety lies in repentance. Our strength comes of obedience to the commandments of God."

O That I Were an Angel, and Could Have the Wish of Mine Heart": "I urge you . . . to utilize the temples of the Church. Go there and carry forward the great and marvelous work which the God of heaven has outlined for us."

To Men of the Priesthood: You men who hold this precious priesthood, bind it to your very souls. Be worthy of it at all times and in all circumstances.

The Marvelous Foundation of Our Faith: God be thanked for His marvelous bestowal of testimony, authority, and doctrine associated with this, the restored Church of Jesus Christ.

Each a Better Person: There is room for improvement in every life. . . . Regardless of our circumstances, we can improve ourselves and while so doing have an effect on the lives of those about us.

The Church Goes Forward: "No other church to come out of the soil of America has grown so fast nor spread so widely. . . . It is a phenomenon without precedent."

Reaching Down to Lift Another: "Let us open our hearts, let us reach down and lift up, let us open our purses, let us show a greater love for our fellowmen."

Living in the Fulness of Times: "Notwithstanding the afflictions about us, notwithstanding the sordid things we see almost everywhere, notwithstanding the conflict that sweeps across the world, we can be better."

Till We Meet Again: "Our safety lies in the virtue of our lives. Our strength lies in our righteousness. God has made it clear that if we will not forsake Him, He will not forsake us."

The Work Goes On: "Let us be good people. Let us be friendly people. Let us be neighborly people. Let us be what members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ought to be."

The Perpetual Education Fund: "Where there is widespread poverty among our people, we must do all we can to help them to lift themselves, to establish their lives upon a foundation of self-reliance that can come of training. Education is the key to opportunity."

The Miracle of Faith: "Faith is the basis of testimony. Faith underlies loyalty to the Church. Faith represents sacrifice, gladly given in moving forward the work of the Lord."

Good-bye for Another Season: "These conferences are held . . . to strengthen our testimonies of this work, to fortify us against temptation and sin, to lift our sights, to receive instruction."

How Can I Become the Woman of Whom I Dream?: (Women's Conference) "You are daughters of the Almighty. Limitless is your potential. Magnificent is your future, if you will take control of it."

A Great Family in Reverence and Worship: "We speak words of testimony concerning God our Eternal Father and His Beloved Son."

Great Shall Be the Peace of Thy Children: "In terms of your happiness, in terms of the matters that make you proud or sad, nothing--I repeat, nothing--will have so profound an effect on you as the way your children turn out."

This Great Millennial Year: "This work is possessed of a vitality which has never been evidenced before to such a degree."

An Humble and a Contrite Heart: "If we have drawn nearer to the Savior, with a more firm resolution to follow His teachings and His example, then this conference will have been a wonderful success."

Your Greatest Challenge, Mother: (Women's Conference) "I know of no better answer to [the] foul practices that confront our young people than the teachings of a mother, given in love with an unmistakable warning."

To All the World in Testimony: "In this great hall . . . the voices of prophets will go out to all the world in testimony of the Redeemer of mankind."

The Stake President: "Stake presidents have been called under the same inspiration under which the General Authorities were called. I pray for these, my beloved brethren, that the Spirit of the Lord will rest upon them."

My Testimony: "Of all the things for which I feel grateful . . . , one stands out preeminently. That is a living testimony of Jesus Christ."

A Time of New Beginnings: "Let us take a little time to meditate, to think of what we can do to improve our lives and to become better examples of what a Latter-day Saint should be."

Why We Do Some of the Things We Do: This . . . is not a cause of ease nor a work without effort, even sacrifice. We shall go on pursuing the path which the Lord has marked out before us."

Thanks to the Lord for His Blessings: "Great are our blessings. Tremendous is our responsibility. Let us . . . march forward without fear to enlarge among people everywhere the righteousness of the Lord."

To the Boys and to the Men: "I am suggesting that the time has come to get our houses in order."

What Are People Asking about Us?: "I . . . wish to set forth, as simply as I know how, my response to what people are asking."

Walking in the Light of the Lord: (Women's Conference) My message to you, my challenge to you, my prayer is that you will rededicate yourselves to the strengthening of your homes.

We Bear Witness of Him: "Let us be true disciples of the Christ, observing the Golden Rule, doing unto others as we would have them do unto us."

Living Worthy of the Girl You Will Someday Marry: "Make yourself worthy of the loveliest girl in all the world. Keep yourself worthy through all the days of your life."

Testimony: "This thing which we call testimony is the great strength of the Church. It is the wellspring of faith and activity. It is difficult to explain. It is difficult to quantify . . . , yet it is as real and powerful as any force on the earth."

New Temples to Provide "Crowning Blessings" of the Gospel: "May the windows of heaven be opened and blessings be showered down upon us as a people as we walk with boldness and in faith before the Lord to accomplish His eternal work."
